We Moved A Mountain… Well, Sort of…
Hello family, friends, and other loved ones! Today was an interesting day in the country of Thailand. We all got up early to go see what is called the “Big Buddha.” And if the name doesn’t give it away, this is a BIG Buddha. Basically, it is the largest Buddha statue in Thailand, and perhaps even the whole world. (Warning… My facts may not be 100% accurate, but it’s still at least one of the largest Buddhas in the world. It was a little disconcerting to walk around and see 300+ Buddha idols being worshipped around this larger one. But the greatness of God far exceeds this stone carving! Just by turning 180 degrees, you would see the beautiful land of Phuket and its beaches. Such a beautiful creation of God’s!! One of the other teams here told us that nine times out of ten when a person is walking up to this statue, they will turn left to look out at God’s creation before looking at Buddha. Amazing, right?
Then it was lunch time! After lunch, we headed out to “THE LAND” for some manual labor! This is where SHE is building a second site. On the way there, something wet started falling from the sky… RAIN!!! Such a blessing after the many hot days that we have experienced since being in Thailand. The rain cooled us and the weather. Once we got to the new site, we took a tour, and then were assigned our task for the afternoon. We were to move a mountain! Okay, so that may be exaggerating a little bit. Our task was to move a huge pile of dirt down a sloped hill in order to raise the ground level by a swamp so it wouldn’t be so swampy. Brittany O, Anna, Kara, and I set right to work at this, while David started weed-wacking. The rain had let up while we moved the dirt, but once we were headed back to SHE, it picked up again. Such a blessing!! The cool weather continued!
We decided that we were all so exhausted from our afternoon, that it would be best not to go out to Bangla Road tonight. We rested and then relaxed by getting some ice cream. Delicious! Well, this girl is super tired and pretty sure the rest of her team is probably asleep by now!
Please just continue your prayers for our team, and we thank you for the prayers you’ve already prayed! Many of our team are missing home, so please just pray that we can keep our focus here in Thailand, and that we don’t miss home too much! We love you all!!!
Until tomorrow,
Britnie J.
